The Friday Photo: Bedouin Man, Sinai

Bedouin man in traditional robes and head-dress walking along a shadowed sand dune in the Sinai Desert, Egypt.
Eid is 35, but looks older. As a child he worked in the Sinai desert, tending the family’s goats as they migrated in search of fresh pasture. Today he is settled, married with two young children, and a professional driver. He still wears the traditional Bedouin garb, both because it’s comfortable and cool in the desert and because — well, why should he change?

He seems as much a part of this old, old landscape as the Yi lady we met in northern China or the Kayan woman sat in her Borneo longhouse.

Really, really loving Egypt. I’d expected it to be a lot more difficult than it has been so far (though Dahab is about as easy as it gets): and glad you’re enjoying the mix of stuff…
