We met this lady from the Yi tribal minority catching the cable car up to Jade Dragon Snow Mountain, outside Lijiang, China, to tend to her yaks. I don’t know her first name, which elderly Chinese don’t like to give out, but she did tell me that she is 76 years old and has five children. She’s also still wearing the same style of dress she would have worn 60 years ago or more, when her people roamed the mountains on horseback like medieval knights.

Me too! I kind of bust it by asking her her first name though. Whoops! She didn’t seem to mind that much (all foreigners being barbarians and having no manners from her perspective), but I didn’t get as far with her as I’d have liked…
